Green means using what you have

Saturday night at home and at the bottom of the shelves are some coloured crayons, a canvas, some black pens. Here’s what they made. OH yeah, and we really really really do heart green…  thanks for stopping by.

Deep gratitude

My heart is green with gratitude instead of envy for so many reasons. We don’t live in Darfur, we live in Sydney. We can breathe today. Things are growing in the garden.  We have choices. We are healthy, sheltered and fed.

Just to be alive would be enough.

Old green photographs = love + memory

Ever noticed how some old photographs go green in the sun? It’s almost as if the love-filter we see our memories through is visible over time, as if the light of day literally affects our memories.

The past seems to gloss and glow much more then the present sometimes – is the grass (and the past) always greener from here, from the other side?

Send us your old pictures so we can add to our gallery of green memories,  just let us know by clicking on the word ‘comment’ anywhere on this page and we’ll send you details.

Painting / Lisa Looser aka Monsta

A very clever Swiss architect has come to Sydney to study for her masters degree and brought with her a great talent for drawing and graff-art. Her name is Lisa Looser aka Monsta, and you can contact her via myspace.

Here are some of her greener works.

Video / Axle Whitehead

We asked Axle Whitehead – actor, musician and Bachelor of the Year 2009 what green means to him.

Axle, we ♥ you too.

Video / Linette & Paddy

We asked Linette and Paddy ‘what does green mean to you?’

Video / Jonathan & Rui

If you pose the question to YouTube, there are many video responses to the question posed here – what does green mean? What is clear is that there’s not one but a multitude of ways to consider it.

We asked Jonathan, a Bondi-based chef originating from Ireland, and Rui, urban Sydney resident and permaculture student, ‘what does green mean to you?’. Here are their answers.

Wishlist / Banksy

There are some enigmatic artists out there who, thanks to the world of twitter, now literally come right into my living room. One is the phenomenon commonly known as Banksy whose impolite visual commentary is perversely appealing, and beautifully unpredictable. From graffiti to published books, Banksy is, if nothing else, unique. I will not presume to describe the art any further, though you can view the official Banksy website here, or view a collection of Banksy’s work around London here. (You can even buy Banksy stuff at the online shop.) There’s a detailed bio of him here which I will not seek to replicate. Suffice it to say he is a clever 34 year old manboy with a solid following and a necessarily well-cultivated air of mystery surrounding his name (especially considering many of his works are done ‘illegally’ in public places).

On the official site this ‘manifesto’ appears:

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realised God doesn’t work that way, so I stole
one and prayed for forgiveness.

- Emo Philips

Via twitter we asked Banksy2 if collaboration on this I Heart Green project would be possible, could he ‘chuck in’? Here was the reply:

true to form

Peace back-at-ya Banksy, there’s something about getting my first rejection from such an upside down icon that seems appropriate.

‘Nuff respect.
